Evaluating the design space

- As with any design process, the development of a good generative model must be done iteratively. Typically, you'll run many optimizations while continuously developing the model and fine tuning the objectives and the constraints. To understand how the model is performing, the designer needs to evaluate the results of each optimization and decide how to adjust the model to get the best possible results. This involves not just looking at the final designs produced, but also looking at the entire optimization process to understand the nature of the design space and how well the algorithm is able to explore it to find the ultimate results. If the designs produced are not satisfactory, one reason may be that the design space is too constrained and doesn't have enough variation to produce the kinds of designs that we're looking for.
