Learn how to modify the Contact section in the Wix website, adding a photo and turning off the map display.
- [Instructor] For the last part of this website, it is potentially the most important part of the story of this website, absolutely bar-none, and that is the contact information. This is the so-called call to action for your website. What do you want people to do? You want them to look at the pretty cake pictures, you want them to be convinced that you want to hire Audrey, and then you want them to get in touch so that they can get the cake that they want, that's the whole story you want to tell. So we've got that going on here for the most part, we've got pictures of Audrey, we've got our opening hours, and then down here at the bottom, we have the ability to get in touch, totally awesome.
Here's the phone number, and we have a form here that people can fill out to get in touch with us. And underneath of that, we also have a map available to us. So this is all just great. I'm of course going to go ahead and modify this a little bit, it's fundamentally just great, we could just change out the picture and call it good, but just to show you some of the other options that we have here. First of all, if we go into the Edit screen, you'll see here that we have display the name in the menu is Contact, since this is the most important part of the website, I will leave that in the menu.
You can have it say Get in Touch, or you can change to your contact, whatever it is that you want. You have the ability to put in a description, I don't think you really need one, I think the content here is kind of self-evident. We have the ability to put in photo, a phone number, we can show the site email, but I would recommend against it. If you put your actual email address on websites, it's likely that spammers will come by and so-called scrape your email address right off your website and put you onto all kinds of junk mailing lists.
The form is here for a reason, people can fill it out and contact you, so don't worry about also listing your email address, they can just use the form. And if they don't want to use the form, they can call. The form can be further configured if we go ahead and click on that, we can show that just by rolling over it, or we can hide that if we choose to. But I'm not going to show that form. And then down here on the bottom is a map of our location. Now, that map is kind of pale I would say.
And I'm not sure how helpful that map is in the first place. Notice here when you roll your mouse over the Map Edit icon here, we can show an address, okay, so that's where we are. We could hide the map altogether, which is temping, shall we say. But we also have some different color schemes that are available to us. So I could make this a dark map. So there's the dark-looking map. But I think the one that I think most people will prefer is to make the map look like Google Maps.
And so that's the color option here. A lot of times, the designers want to make this look nice and light or dark because it looks prettier with the rest of the website, but honestly I think it conveys a lot of information and pretty much all of us have looked at Google Maps at one point or another. So the most effective kind of look to the site might be really just to use the default Google colors. But as I said, I'm not sure how helpful this map is in the first place, I'm actually just going to go ahead and hide it and get rid of it. Then, the last thing that I want to do is I have a great photograph that I want to add to this, which are some kids at a birthday party.
So I'm going to go ahead and replace this image with something else. We'll go ahead and go to Replace, we'll go to My Images, and we'll upload the image here, which is from Chapter Two, folder number eight, the birthday banner. Go on ahead and upload that, and say Done. Make sure that's chosen for the website, and then say Apply. And what we're going to get here with this particular layout is this photo which is a great photo, but we've now cut off both of the kids.
So we could go ahead and leave it like this, it's okay, but those kids are adorable. So we would probably like to show more of this photo. Let's change our design here, so I'm going to go to Designs, and we just sort of scroll on down here. There are some other layouts. For example, we could switch to this one, which will have our contact form here and have those cute kids down underneath, that's very nice. Here's another version of that, same kind of thing.
And, or we could put the kids on top. And I kind of like putting the kids on top, it'll split us up nicely between the opening hours and the contact form. So I'm going to go ahead and click this one to change that, and so there we go. So from Opening Hours, we go to the adorable kids here and then we go to the Get in Touch, and we have our contact form, our social media icons down here in the bottom, and a footer with our information in it. So the end of this website is looking just great.
