About tables

In this chapter, we're going to take a look at how to work with HTML tables in {italic}Dreamweaver CS3. {plain} Originally, tables were intended to be used for displaying data in tidy rows and columns, mostly text and numbers. But soon, people realized that you can also place images into tables, and manipulate the behavior of the tables in such a way they could lay out an entire page within them. After that, it became nearly impossible to spend more than five minutes surfing the web, without running into a page layout that relied entirely on tables. In a nutshell, tables can give you the ability to make your web pages look more like they came out of a page layout program like, say, the Adobe {italic}InDesign{plain} or {italic}Quark XPress.{plain} And it's still hard to find many websites containing pages that aren't laid out in tables.
