In the previous movie, I showed you a couple of ways to create a new blank page in {italic}Dreamweaver. {plain} Each of the pages I created were basic HTML pages. Now, if you recall at the beginning of this tutorial, I mentioned that {italic}Dreamweaver {plain}writes all of its codes to be XHTML compliant, XHTML being the current standard for web page code. In this movie I want to quickly show you where in {italic}Dreamweaver {plain}to find the preferences to determine how strictly your pages need to conform to the XHTML standard. Let's start by choosing, File, New. Just like we did in the previous movie to create a new page. In that movie, I showed you that you can create a basic HTML page by selecting Blank Page, HTML.

Now, with HTML selected, notice down here that we have a DocType menu. This is also known as a document type declaration or DDT. The default setting here is XHTML 1.0 Transitional but, you can see we have several other choices here. Now, what does all this ...
