Early morning light
(soft music) - So now the sun is just coming up, and we've got this whole different dynamic with the shadows coming from the different side. So it would then give us this different sense of how the light is hitting the space. This is so important to think about when you're sketching in cities, which way the light's coming from, where the shadows are going to be falling, and what time of day you're going to be doing the sketching. The earlier on, the longer the shadows, and the more dramatic feel you can get into your drawings. Because of the stronger shadows, and the movement of the sun in the morning, I wanted to block in the shadows early on in this sketch. Usually, I would wait til later in the sketch to put in the shadows, but depending on how quick the light is changing, you can often block in the shadows this way as well, and it will still work well, just bear it in mind really, depending on the lighting that the sketch that you're drawing.
