Join Josh Samuelson for an in-depth discussion in this video Solution: Track down an issue, part of Learning Splunk.
(electronic swishing)…- [Instructor] The underlying issue that we're…tracking down is really just a cron job that I've…set up to run every five minutes.…It does this so that we'll have something…interesting to look at in the logs.…It's a trivial example, but it's actually not…so unrealistic that you might have some broken…cron job creating a recurring pattern of errors.…I'll try to walk through a typical scenario…of how you might track this down.…First, when you log into Splunk, you immediately…notice that there are a lot of 404s…on the homepage dashboard.…
So you might go to search and just search for 404s.…And you can see we've got a lot of results here.…At this point, before doing anything else…I would just pause and look through the results…to see if any patterns stood out.…Nothing seems too obvious at the moment,…so let me isolate it just to the access_combined…source type.…And I can just click on that link here.…
Now these are just the engine access_combined log errors.…And let's look and see if there's any obvious patterns here.…
