- [Narrator] Let's say that you'd like to set up your own environment to recreate what you see in this course on Docker Storage. First, I recommend that if you haven't already, make sure that you watch my Docker: Installation and Configuration course. Because in that course I show you how I use VMware Fusion, a local hypervisor on my MAC desktop system to create three different Ubuntu Linux virtual machines and then inside each of those Ubuntu Linux virtual Machines I install Docker Enterprise Edition with the universal control plane.
And it's these virtual machines that I'll be using to demonstrate the Docker storage and volume features that you'll see in this course step by step. So that's one option for you. You can use a local hypervisor on a Windows or MAC desktop system. Install something like VMware Fusion or VMware Workstation, and then install Ubuntu inside virtual machines and then run Docker. Now, alternatively, if you'd like to just run Docker locally on a MAC or Windows Docker provides Docker for MAC or Docker for Windows.
If you look up here you can see how I've installed Docker for MAC Community Edition on my local MAC laptop. This is free, it's very easy to do, and just about every Docker Storage and Volume demonstration that I do in this course, you should be able to recreate using Docker for MAC or Docker for Windows. The most important thing when you're done is that you end up with a command prompt that looks something like this.
When you run Docker, you should be able to perform commands like Docker help, Docker info, and Docker version. So this is Docker for MAC and you can see the version of Docker we're using here 18.03. If we clear the screen and we do an SSH over to node one in our Docker cluster. And then if I do a Docker version here, you can see we are one version behind, we're still using Docker 17.06.
But this is the Enterprise Edition. Either way, the Docker Storage and Volume demonstrations that you see in this course should work just fine. So you have multiple ways to create an environment to learn to use Docker Storage in your own home lab environment or even out in the Cloud.
