- [Voiceover] Territorial rights are arguably one of the most important but also one of the most complex metadata topics. In this training, I hope to give you a good foundational understanding of the issues that you will likely run into when handling your territorial rights. But please be aware that there are always exceptions to the rules you will hear. We have to make a distinction between the rights that you have as a publisher and the rights that you are actually making use of in the context of the supply chain. As the world gets smaller, and distribution in other countries becomes easier, you may be upgrading your author contracts to obtain the rights to sell a book everywhere in the world, not just in the United States or North America. However, just because you obtain those rights from the author does not mean that you're going to actually sell the product in every country or that the retailers you are providing your metadata to are contractually allowed to sell the books in…
