Status and availability

- [Voiceover] One of the key metadata elements that retailers need to know is the status and availability of your books. This status allows them to stay in the loop as you go through the normal publishing lifecycle, so it's important to keep that information up-to-date. In ONIX, the status is defined in the publishing status field. The first time you send out your metadata, you will be alerting trading partners to the fact that the book will be published in the future, and giving them the publication date. If you need to cancel, or postpone the publication before the publication date, you can send that information in the status field as well, however, it should be noted that once the book has been listed as active, you can no longer go back to canceled, or postponed. When you set the title as active, you will also send information about the availability of the actual books themselves. We'll come back to that in a moment.
