- [Instructor] Print books like other physical objects have physical characteristics that are important to retailers. When a retailer is preparing to sell an item, they have to know how much space it will take up on the shelves, how much it weighs, and more. These physical specs also help consumers visualize the size of a book. Physical specs include the dimensions, the weight, and the page count of a book. Let's look at the dimensions first. The height of the book, also called the length, is the measurement of the spine along the binding. The width is the measurement perpendicular to the spine. Note that the height and the width are not measured based on the page size, they are measured based on the size of the cover. The depth or thickness of the book is the measurement across the spine.
