- [Alan] Paper or imaged-based portfolios have been a common part of teaching for decades giving students and artists an opportunity to showcase and reflect upon their work in addition to providing job search benefits across many disciplines. As technology has advanced however, paper-based portfolios have given rise to web-based electronic portfolios known as e-portfolios. One of the most common e-portfolio tools is Digication which is at the forefront of the e-portfolio movement. Hi, I'm Alan Ackmann.
I teach in the writing, rhetoric and discourse department at DePaul University and I've used Digication in my courses for over five years as a way to help students take ownership of their writing process and deepen their understanding of course concepts. Throughout this course we'll cover some of the latest and most common features of Digication and the role that it can play in helping your students learn. We'll cover how to create an e-portfolio, add content, customize the portfolio, publish it and submit.
We'll also address different types of e-portfolios, how Digication can serve a classroom management function and some thoughts on how to present and assess e-portfolios. By the end of the course you'll have a very solid sense of not only how to use Digication in your courses but also why you'd use it and its benefits to individual student reflection and transferable learning outcomes.
