What is an IDE?: Java: IDE Overview

IDE stands for Integrated Development Environment. An IDE is a software application used by programmers for code development. An IDE normally consists of a source code editor, a compiler/interpreter, and a debugger. By encapsulating the entire process of code creation, compilation and testing, an IDE increases programmer productivity. Once all testing is complete, the program can be packaged and released into a production environment.
