- [Instructor] As we start on the journey toward understanding and using exploratory testing, we should probably start out with an understanding of what exploratory testing is. There are many ways to define it, and if you Google around, you'll pretty quickly see that there are a lot of different opinions about it. I don't know that providing a standard dictionary-style definition of something is really that helpful, so instead, I want to discuss exploratory testing using a contrast method. Sometimes, testing is considered to be executing a test script. This can happen in manual testing, where you might have a set of documented test scripts that were created for testers to run through, or it might be with test automation, where we tell the automation a set of steps that we want it to follow and what we expect to happen at each step.
