A day in the life of an architect: Afternoon
- Let's pick up right where we left off. Today is company lunch day, and even that's a productive time for Frank. There's a running card game that almost everybody in this part of the company plays, and even though that's fun, it's also a great time for people to talk to people on other teams. A lot of problems that span the teams get solved over the card table. This may seem like play, but I've seen lots of hard work getting done while the teams are playing. The inter-team collaboration that's happening is almost impossible to get in a more formal way, and problems are being solved that would otherwise be left on the table. The afternoon is devoted to an architecture guild meeting. This guild is an architecture-focused group that has at least one member from every team. The point is to learn from each other and to coordinate on a regular basis. There's often a class during the meeting, but there's also a lot of work going on.
