Write down impressions immediately

- As soon as the candidate leaves, try to find three or four minutes to write down your impressions about the candidate. That includes not just whether you think they're a good fit for the position, but the main reasons why. Also put down anything that stood out about the candidate, such as they want to move into doing more software architecture or they were enthusiastic about talking to users. This is particularly important if you are interviewing multiple candidates in a short timeframe. They will begin to blur in your mind after two or three. A good, brief writeup in your notes will help you remember which candidate is associated with which name. If your company does multiple interviews, your notes are also quite helpful when you get together to make a final hiring decision.
