Why do you need a resume?

- A resume is the first thing you need to apply for a job, and having a complete resume will differentiate you from the candidate pool. (gentle music) Resumes allow employers to learn more about a candidate before inviting them for a job interview. Your resume is an advertisement for you and the skills you bring to a team. It details your previous work experience, your education, your skill set and your accomplishments. (gentle music) Without a resume, it would be nearly impossible to compete with the hundreds of other candidates applying for the same role. (upbeat music) The primary purpose of your resume is to land you a job interview where you can show an employer who you are and why you're the best fit for the role. - Hi, how are you? - [Man] How are you doing? - So tell me how you stay relevant in the tech industry. - Well, I really love reading technical blogs and books and I listen to a lot of podcasts. Many employers will use your resume as a guideline during an interview. And having a great resume has many benefits, above and beyond landing you a job interview. (upbeat music) It can give you a sense of security if you unexpectedly need to search for a new job. You won't have the stress of trying to throw in together at the last minute. (upbeat music) Or it can land you a job in a foreign country where you can begin a completely new life. My resume helped me land a job in Germany and having a complete resume, provided me with the opportunity to interview with overseas companies and ultimately land a great job.
