Why code delivery pipeline?
- Agile financial had spent several years developing a code delivery pipeline. They had a centralized code repository where developers checked in code. Code check-in would trigger a build process that would batch code changes over a short period of time and build and deploy applications to a testing environment. The build process would also execute unit, and integration tests and also notify testers to perform manual testing. Once the testing was successful, manual approval would trigger deployment to the production environment. Building this process took them years and the process worked pretty well. So what did they need to change in this process? The number of applications and size of many of these applications had grown significantly. And they were constantly reprovisioning larger build virtual machines, or adding more resources to the existing build machines. This was being done to make sure the build process…
