- While products and personnel change, best practices and quality remain at the core of any successful program. This course is designed to help you, whether you are a one-person department or simply a player in a large quality program. However there are a few prerequisites to getting the most from this course. For starters you should have some understanding of software development. You don't have to be a programmer but it's helpful if you understand the nuts and bolts of development. Familiarity with the terms and processes around software development help you communicate your test results and give your developers confidence you understand the issues you are reporting. You should also have some experience with your company's bug tracking system or working with a bug tracking process. Let's be realistic here. You will encounter bugs during your testing and being familiar with the systems, the requirements and how the information is shared with your team is important. During this course having familiarity with any bug tracking system will be helpful. Speaking of examples we will also be using a fictional application to help illustrate how effective test management can be completed. Throughout this course we're going to be referencing a tourism application called Explore California allowing visitors to California a single location to book and manage their vacation. This is complicated software tool with lots of APIs and search functionality. As part of our journey I don't want you to focus on the application itself but on how we manage this product's tests. As part of this course I have created some useful resources including a product requirements document or PRD, a sample test plan and a sample test case. There is a lot of information in there and we're not going to cover it all but it helps give perspective on the nuts and bolts of our Explore California application and test. Check out my other LinkedIn learning course on test planning or review the documents if you want to learn more about how they fit in executing a quality test.
