- [Instructor] As consumers, we access websites using an easy-to-remember name. For example, we visit google.com or linkedin.com. Google and LinkedIn are both domain names or website names. They are commonly-known identifiers use to access their website, similar to an IP address. So it makes sense that we use them. But how does it all get linked? We don't go to IP address 198.68.9.2 to watch a course on LinkedIn Learning. There is a system called DNS or the Domain Name Service that enables a computer to look up an IP address for any given website or domain name. Now you might be wondering what happens behind the scenes. When you access a website using a domain name, your computer will send out a request to a domain name server and the domain name server will resolve the domain name to an IP address.
