- As a first time manager or when you take over a new team it is important that you make an effort to understand your team. What projects are they working on? What motivates them? And where do they need help? Know that just as you are anxious as a new manager, your team is anxious too. They are wondering how having a new manager is going to impact the direction of their projects, the working style, the career and professional goals, and overall morale of the team. There are a few things that you can do to better understand your team. First, conduct one-on-one meetings with your team members. Use this time to get to know them. Don't make this a status meeting.
