- The tech industry plays an important role in our economy and our society. Almost everyone uses their products, our kids, our parents, our neighbors. These products affect our lives and our habits. Sometimes, they shape our world in profound ways. So the tech industry plays an important role in our world which is why bias and inclusivity in tech is important. As a leader in this space, your biases become your team's biases. The biases you allow to persist become your team's habits. Those habits become part of your products and those products then shape our society. So for engineers and managers looking to make their work in tech meaningful and shape a better world in the process, I have a simple message. Start with building an inclusive tech team. In your team, you will find people who are great networkers, people who may be a bit shy or introverted when it comes to communication, people who are struggling to understand their sense of identity and how they fit in a changing workplace. How can you be a leader that coaches your team to overcome these challenges, work together and achieve the team's shared goals? Above all, how do you make them feel like they belong? What they do makes a difference and their work makes the team special. That is the challenge and possibility of inclusivity. My name is Nishant Bhajaria In my ongoing growth as a leader, I have learned how to think about inclusivity more broadly and holistically. Inclusive teams made me look at people as fuller individuals with hopes and dreams rather than just as headcount. That made me a better leader and our team more successful.
