- [Instructor] Where some code review comments can be annoying, others can be outright hurtful. This is why tone of voice matters, so much that it's one of the top pet peeves of developers when it comes to code reviews. Usually, we don't try to hurt each other's feelings or say something intentionally mean, but in a virtual environment, one where human emotion and expression are lost, code review comments can be easily misconstrued. And if you think about it, it kind of makes sense. When you read the comments, you read them in an isolated context. You only see the code in front of you, possibly some description in the pull request, and that's it. Take for example, this pull request. This is from an open source repo, one that has many developers using it and checking it out. Now, imagine how this person felt after reading this comment.
