Test automation

- What's your experience with test automation? - Now if I'm not careful, this question will stump me. I don't have any formal experience with test automation, but I've actually automated a lot more than I think. If I were sit down and think about all of the areas of my work where I've thought to myself, if I could automate this it would make my life a lot easier, and then I've gone and done that, I'd have a much longer list. Thinking about areas of automation or automated task completion can help in this scenario. It doesn't have to be Selenium, but if you have any experience in that, then by all means talk as much as you want about it. But also, think about extra areas where you've done around automation. The interviewer wants to know if you have any actual experience in test automation like Selenium, but they also want to know if you're willing to learn it or are already learning it. Taking that into consideration, my answer would probably go something like this. I always think if I'm doing a job more than few times, I may as well try to automate it, which is why I've been using things like Bash scripts in to automate little jobs here and there to help myself save some time. I've not really used Selenium in anger, but I'm well aware of its importance within the testing lifecycle and I'm keen to be put in a position where I can not only learn this skill, but use it as a daily driver for my work. Now here, I've openly admitted that I don't have any experience in Selenium or traditional test automation and that is a risk, but I'm also highlighting that it's of interested to me and that I'm keen to learn more about it. If you have specific experience, remember to also include any additional work or side projects or passion pieces that you may have also created or are currently working on. All of this can really help boost your answer.
