Techniques, questions to ask, and follow-up

- Here's how this course can help you achieve those outcomes. We'll start by going through what you do before and during the interview. That includes how to analyze the resume and tips on conducting the interview. A key preparation item is creating a list of questions you can ask. Well thought out questions are much more likely to result in a constructive interview, and as a bonus, will give the candidate a good impression of the experience. Two complete chapters of the course present questions you might like to use, along with reason for the questions and the type of answers you might get. This should be your starting point for building your own list of questions, which is your most important asset for conducting an effective interview. Along the way, I'll tell you some real-life stories of successes and failures in my interviewing experience. I want to help you avoid my mistakes and draw lessons from my successes. We'll wrap up with a host of tips and techniques that I have found useful for more effective interviews, such as how to interview as a team and how to guide the interview into productive directions. A quick note, this course is not intended to advise you on laws or human resources policies. Those vary from place to place and company to company. Violating laws on employment can get you and your company in a lot of trouble. One of the key responsibilities for your human resources department is to avoid such trouble. Anyone who interviews candidates should be sensitive to the potential problems. The techniques and questions I've discussed in this course have never caused any issues for me, but you should be aware of the human resources policies at your company and if you have any doubts about legal implications, you should consult your HR department or a lawyer who specializes in employment. Now it's time to get down to the details of changing interviews from a chore to a more positive experience with better outcomes.
