- Are you good at getting interviews but seem to miss that moment of truth in the interview itself? I'm here to help. As a hiring manager, here are my key observations about engineers and soft skills. Too many engineers focus on building the hard technical skills in their career but do not receive the guidance and the coaching necessary to make a strong case for their candidacy during the recruitment process. Many engineers focus on the technical what, the programming languages, the infrastructure stacks, the number of check-ins, bug fixes, et cetera. As a result of all this, the engineers lose sight of the strategic why. Why did they make the choices they did, and why are they the right fit for this role at this time? This is not a skill gap but a context gap, and it routinely hurts engineers when they apply for roles as well as when they try to present their point of view on the job. This course will help close that gap. My name is Nishant Bhajaria, and I've led engineering, product, and security teams at companies like Google, Netflix, and Uber. This course is about presentation and persuasion, skills that are key to getting the job and doing the job. But before we move forward with the course, let's go back in time, almost 19 years ago, a true story from my own life. We will see how with the mix of soft and hard skills, and more than my share of luck, I landed my very first role.
