- Unless you have perfect memory you'll probably need to take some notes during the interview. Certainly, if you are interviewing multiple candidates for a position you'll need some notes to jog your memory during final evaluation. The kind of notes you take depend very much on circumstances. I mentioned earlier about taking note of first impressions. Beyond that the guiding principle is to take note of anything that has a significant impact on the hiring decision. Don't constantly scribble notes during the interview though. It makes some candidates uncomfortable. They may think it means they've given a lot of bad answers. It also can interfere with listening to the candidate. Instead limit your notes to important points. For example if a candidate gave a great answer to the question about the weirdest bug they've ever seen jot down the essentials of their story. Or if a candidate is interviewing for an architect position but…
