- The Spotify Agile model has led to a unique personnel structure. Spotify teams are very autonomous and have the freedom of selecting what works for them. Most teams use a combination of Scrum and Kanban, but their core values are based on Lean principles of avoiding waste and providing business value to customers quickly and often. Teams choose how they execute their work and the tools. There are few high-level controls in place, but for the most part, teams work independently. The smallest team in this model is a squad. A squad usually comprises of one to seven persons. In our example, there are four people in a squad. A squad is similar to a Scrum team in the sense it is self-organizing and cross-functional. Squads have a lot of freedom in deciding what to build and how to build. Squad team members are co-located and work in a highly collaborative environment.
