Spike testing
- [Speaker] When thinking about performance, you may also want to consider spike testing. With spike testing, you're trying to figure out if your application can handle a sudden increase in load. For example, if something on your site went viral and you suddenly had five or 10 times the usual load in a few minutes, could your server handle it? So on the test design side, we need to figure out how big of a spike to test for. If you know of some event that might trigger it, you can use that to estimate, but otherwise you could use a load of something like five to 10 times the normal base load, increasing that over a short period of time, like maybe 10 to 20 minutes, and that can give you a pretty good idea of how your application might respond to these kind of stress situations.
