Setting realistic expectations

- The hiring process is not an exact science. Even if you, as a candidate, do everything right, there are a number of factors that could affect the pace and the outcome of the hiring process. It is important that you build this possibility into your expectations. You do not want to confuse misfortune or change for failure. There are certain things you cannot control and no amount of preparation will overcome them. There are several reasons why the hiring process often changes direction: budget freezes, headcount reallocations between teams and orgs; priority changes for projects; reorganizations; mergers, acquisitions, what have you. Often, candidates get confused by these sudden changes. I want to provide a realistic view into the instability inherent to this process, even at a late stage.
