Remote standups
- For agile teams, standups and retrospectives are core practices to ensure value is delivered quickly and that we're constantly learning about how to be more effective. While these practices were originally developed for co-located teams, you can successfully adapt them for distributed teams as well. On a distributed team, communicating information asynchronously is important. Teams are often separated by time zone and have the autonomy to work flexible hours. Asynchronous communication does not replace synchronous activities but rather works in conjunction with it. This allows team members to digest information at a time of their choosing and helps ensure that everyone is aware of other members' activities, impediments, and ideas for improvement. Standups became popular with the rise of Scrum. In the Scrum Guide by Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber, they describe a daily standup meeting as a 15-minute timeboxed meeting for the development team. The goal is a short check-in so that…
