- If you've made it this far into the course, I imagine you have at least some interest in a role as an architect. It can be quite a fulfilling and interesting job, and sometimes in unexpected ways. At least, it was for me. To be quite honest, I wasn't really looking for a job in architecture. It found me. Because I had experience as a software developer, the transition was a little easier, but I realized I liked architecture work because I enjoy communicating with people about building systems. That focused nature of heads-down coding is rewarding in its own way, but I realized I like looking up. So, if you are a software engineer with an interest in architecture, ask yourself, how much do you depend on that heads-down coding time? Will you be happy with more interaction with others?
