- [Narrator] Now that we've seen some of the important practices of extreme programming, let's take a look into the mindset behind it. When I first discovered XP, I loved its focus on technical excellence. I loved writing great code with my coworkers, and XP gave us a framework for doing that. Another thing I loved about extreme programming, was its focus on being humane. We loved writing code together, and we would do it nonstop, all day and all night. But there was no way we could write high-quality code if we didn't take breaks, eat adequately, exercise at least a little, and get some sleep. We loved that XP included advice to take care of ourselves, and to work at a sustainable pace. Programmer welfare is a reminder that software developers are human, and that we're at our best when we take care of ourselves, humanely.
