- Now that you've had an introduction to remote working for software development teams, I recommend you check out some of the companies that are luminaries when it comes to operating successfully distributed teams, Buffer, Zapier, Automatic, and Basecamp, formerly known as 37signals. Check out Buffer's blog at open.buffer.com where they share insights on building a remote and transparent company. Zapier has an e-book called The Ultimate Guide for Remote Work, which we actually use as part of a reference during our own onboarding. Scott Berkun provides a behind the scenes look at Automatic, the company behind wordpress.com, in his book The Year Without Pants. As you can guess from the title, it's also a pretty entertaining read. REMOTE: Office Not Required is another book worth reading by the founders of 37signals.
