Different types of interviewers
- Depending on the company, different panelists will have varying levels of visibility into the hiring process. In some cases, these panelists will be key influencers behind the role and its scope. And yet other cases, the hiring manager will put them on the panel to get specific signals about the candidate even if they won't directly interact with whoever gets the role. It is also possible that someone has drafted on at the last moment as a substitute for somebody else who's schedule changed. Given this mix, it is best to prepare your interview presentation accordingly. Let me offer two key best practices for your panel interviews. First, you should assume that everyone you talk to understands at best part of the overall scope of the role. This gives you an opportunity to understand what that means to different stakeholders across the company. You may also be able to tell of any misalignment or contradictory expectations.
