- As I mentioned a short while ago, it is not helpful for me to review a resume that could have been written for 10 different jobs. There needs to be a correlation between the role and the resume. There also needs to be a correlation between your message and the key stakeholders that will have a say in the hiring process. In the next chapter I will be talking at length about who the key players are in the hiring process. The goal is to give you a sense of what these diverse stakeholders are looking for and how to best prepare for these conversations. In my intro, I mentioned that too many engineers focused on the what and the how. Soft skills are about the why and the who. Do not let this intimidate you. There are ways to prepare for this multidimensional conversation. The next chapter will show you how. Think of it this way, interviewing is a muscle, in order to build it you need to use it. As you use it you first feel pain, then you start building strength.
