- [Instructor] Once our team fully embraced our distributed mindset, I started noticing that there were opportunities to use code to help facilitate communication across my team. For example, I wanted Slack to ask a random question in our break room channel that would get people chatting and building rapport. Things like, what is your favorite time of day, and why? What fictional world would you most want to visit? And then on Fridays, what are your plans for the weekend? I knew that these types of prompts would be useful, but why do it myself when I could program a computer to do it for me? We built a small script, populated it with about 300 questions, and then wrote some code to deliver it how we wanted, and it's worked great. This practice of optimizing and automating team communication is commonly referred to as ChatOps, short for chat operations, and it plays a big role in the success of your distributed team.
