- You may have heard the phrase testing velocity. When someone talks about testing velocity, it can mean a number of things, so let's cover some of the main uses of this popular strategy. With the most common usage, it means the number of tests in a given time. In other words, they say velocity, but they mean speed or the overall number of tests. For example, we perform, on average, 100 tests a month, but speed being a scalar quantity is the rate at which an object covers distance. However, velocity is a vector quantity. It is direction-aware. Velocity is the rate at which the position changes, so when used properly, testing velocity means that the rate of testing has a positive rate of increase.
