- A great habit, and I would recommend that it become a mandatory step, is to have post-project reviews whenever possible after the completion of each project. The best time to do them is after a huge project, a new client relationship, or an especially challenging project. This starts after the project is completed and includes an internal and external review of the outcomes and the process. We do a general review by first looking at each phase of the project to determine what was done well and where there could have been improvement. We look at the project scope, the budget, the timeline, any established goals, the overall process. When we examine the project scope, we compare the list we started with at the beginning of the project with what was actually delivered. For each step, we make notes about any changes or interesting observations, and then move on to the next item. Next, we look at the approved budget and compare that with where we ended up.
