- A side hustle is a small entrepreneurial pursuit you create with the purpose of generating extra income. Ideally, your side hustle is something that brings in extra cash with minimal additional work and stress. Some examples of side hustles include designing a font, creating an online course, selling your Photoshop brushes, writing an ebook, or selling your own custom line of merchandise. For example, my friend Jason Carne was living in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania in 20 working as a full-time freelance designer. However, a string of frustrating projects that were art directed into oblivion left him feeling drained and trapped. Jason was so frustrated with his freelance work he told me he was thinking about going back to working in his old construction job. Jason always had a love of historical lettering work.
