Unplug

- Unplug. For all the good that the internet offers it also provides one of the strongest deterrents to rut-busting, distraction. Distraction will keep you from achieving any and every goal you set for yourself so there must come a time when the distraction needs to be tempered. A common practice among successful creatives is a defined time and space for living unplugged and undistracted. Some have made conscious no email zones for the first hour of their work day, a time when they absolutely will not check or send emails. This enables them to get more pressing work done during that time. Others will sequester themselves in unplugged cabins or remote getaways to make sure they're spending solid time pursuing the creative work they want to pursue. Although you may not be able to control which hours of the day you check email or have the means to secure a remote cabin, you can set parameters in your life around your own forced unplugged times and places in an effort to reduce the blessed beckoning that the internet emits in your life. Perhaps you can reserve an hour a day in the morning or at night when you can remove yourself from the distraction of the internet and engage in some form of creative endeavor. By replacing a passive distraction with some form of active creation, you're taking and active role in your rut-busting goal.
