Typography overview

- Type normally doesn't have the visual impact of photography, but it does play a key information role. Especially in a catalog, you don't want to get tricky with type. You want a style that's beautiful and clear. Type is a style maker but stay pretty conservative. You have a lot of different kinds of information and you the need the page to release that information easily and freely. You'll pay attention to three things, style, hierarchy, and consistency. Style will be your type face or faces. Your choices here will create your image. The easiest approach is a single type family. More common is to use two or even three. Second, you'll have a hierarchy of sizes and weights. Big and bold will dominate, small and light will recede. You'll have headlines, then lots of smaller type, very much like a magazine. Text, captions, call-outs, or just floating copy, product numbers, prices, things like that, all of which may appear together on a single page. Third element is consistency…
