Transparency and fading

- Another graphic attribute of type in motion that you might want to try involves a simple technique using typographic transparency or fading. Animated type which is semi-transparent works especially well combined with video footage. And it can work equally well without imagery, when you are just including typographic elements. In this opener from the TV show "Will & Grace," semi-transparent large letters wash over the live action which introduces the show's cast. The action of the typography adds to the fun and layers in extra visual excitement. In a few seconds the type resolves into the show's logo. (upbeat music) The active transparent type serves other purposes, too. It links a number of live action vignettes as they slide in opposing directions.
