- [Instructor] Here are some…of the things you're trying to find out…during user observation.…If the system has problems, limitations, or bugs,…you'll certainly want to understand those,…and more generally,…if the system seems to frustrate the user or slow them down,…work on finding out why.…Here's an example of what you should be looking for.…You might see a user take an action…that doesn't seem necessary, such as filling in a field…with what appears to be random information.…That usually means the program requires that information,…but the user doesn't know it yet.…
This is bad design,…and applications should not generally require…information the user does not know.…Users may have ideas for improvement.…Listen to them, but make no promises.…Here are generic questions I like…to ask during user observation,…in addition to specific questions I might find…while watching them.…I take an index card with these questions printed…to remind me when I do user observation.…Notice the emotional content of some of these questions.…
