- Marie Condo is onto something life giving. The life changing magic of tidying up. What I love about what she's doing is that she's not talking about just getting rid of stuff, but it's more positive. It's about identifying and keeping only those things that spark joy. Design is just like that. I have an example. I came across this paper flyer. I will say I've changed the copy to protect the innocent, but it's essentially what I saw. Headline, sub head, six blocks with photos, heads, copy, then business name, contact info at the bottom. It's a pretty standard template. The problem of course is all the stuff. The black field, the grid, the boxes, the round corners, the gold bars, none of it contributes. In fact look at this. If we take away the copy and pictures, all the stuff is still there, but there's nothing there. I mean literally, it's like junk in the trunk. Some sort of exoskeleton.
