Paper catalog: Strengths

- What are the upsides to a paper catalog? I can think of a lot. It arrives, it just shows up. You don't have to go find it. You can pour a cup of tea, peruse it, savor it, enjoy it, immerse yourself in the world it presents. It's physical, it's tactile, it's sensual. It's paper, it's not cyber, it's not behind glass. You can feel it, you can hear it, you can smell it, flip back and forth. It's engaging, it's what paper does. It's unique, it's singular, it stands out. It's like that IKEA catalog. You're not sharing your stage with anyone. No ads, no clicks, no distractions. It's your space, your voice, you have an interested reader. It's a great place to be. That's assuming the reader has asked for your catalog, which in my opinion, is the only reason you should be sending it. Anything else is spam. It's going straight to the trash, along with all the money you spent to make it. It's a big, high-resolution stage. You can put more information in front of a reader on paper than you can…
