- [Instructor] And yet, even with the value of good design, and the dangers of bad UX design, it's common to hear someone claim that a team can't do design because there's no money or no time for it. I have never seen a case where UX design caused a project to need noticeably more development time. In fact, I've seen it reduce time, by eliminating false starts and dead ends, in addition to producing a more valuable end result. There are other obstacles too, starting with a common misconception among developers and other technical or management team members. Some developers understand that UX design is good, but they lack confidence that they personally can do it. They think that designers are somehow special, and that non-designers simply can't do effective UX design. I call this The Flamingo Fallacy, here's why. Those developers tend to have a mental model that says, designers are special, colorful creatures. They seem to think that developers are more like the turkey vultures…
