- The proposal's main goals are to provide just enough context to demonstrate and defend the value of the prospect's proposed financial investment in your services and expertise. Details matter. Ultimately, if you win the project, then these details will make a more effective proposal, guide your client's expectations throughout the relationship, and help you manage scope creep. A proposal should tell a story, so consider the following elements. Information hierarchy, order and priority of information, clarity. Think bullets versus narrative content, sound bites, key messages, and summary opportunities. I was recently reviewing a proposal from one of my clients that was over 20 pages long, and I realized the information was ordered oddly. The first few pages was about the client or the project, then the next few pages was about the design firm, then they moved back to the client and project, and then ended with more about the design firm.
