Skill Level Beginner
- I'm Kristin Ellison, the content manager of design here at Lynda.com. We created this course to help you get started when it comes to learning design. Whether you want to become a graphic designer, or just design a book, a logo, or a brochure for your business, this course will help you get started. We'll begin at the first stage of the design process, concept development. This is the most critical stage and one many often skip. Design is both an art and a science, so it's extremely important to make strategic decisions rather than just going with what looks good at the time.
Making an informed choice can mean the difference between effective designs and just pretty ones. After that, we'll explore creativity. Many people are convinced they aren't creative. This couldn't be further from the truth. Everyone's creative. It's just a matter of knowing how to tap into it. We'll then explore the fundamental building blocks of graphic design: Color, typography, and layout.
These topics are essential for all design and a great place for any new designer to begin. Next, we'll look at different types of design including logos, digital publishing, and more. From there, we'll move on to the topic of software. I'll walk you through the major players so you'll feel confident that the tools you learn will meet the needs of your projects. We'll also get into exporting your designs digitally, as well as turning them into printed pieces that look amazing.
This course is meant to be a general overview of the topics you need to know. I won't be covering them in depth but instead, I'll provide suggestions of courses that focus on each topic. So let's get started learning all about design and the design courses you need to create great work.
