- Before we dive fully into the trends in this year's report, I always like to make a few general observations less about specific logos and more about aesthetics influencing brand design generally. Learn from the outside in. What we do as identity designers is more likely to be an outgrowth of external influences as opposed to us developing a direction that the rest of the world reacts to. Our brands certainly demand a large stage, but the shifts in seasonal and annual marketing are much more prolific and spontaneous than logos. Think of logo design as durable goods and marketing design as consumables. Our industry, just now, is really trying its best to deal with the vagaries of color. If you've been tracking, you know that over the last few years, the use of aggressive gradients on marks has firmly carved out a home.
