- The process of creativity relies on the elements of copying, combining, and then transformation. We use these elements to change an initial idea into something that's authentically ours. Instead of trying to come up with a completely original idea, I encourage you to use other people's ideas as an inspirational springboard for your own. Use other's works as a jumping off point, build your ideas on theirs, and get your remix on. What better way to find sources to take and riff on than to actively consume inspiration from a wide variety and diverse range of sources. For centuries communities that were at the crossroads of the world, like port cities and cities on major trade routes have flourished because of the intermixing of ideas from people from vastly different cultures.
